Germany’s Shylock’s latest CD is phenomenal. This is the bands third release and it’s definitely a charm. I mean every song on this CD totally rocks. Great songwriting, great music, and it has the indication of a landmark CD. If you’re a fan of hard rock and classic rock go and buy this CD, you might have to buy a back-up because you will definitely wear it out.
The title track “Welcome to Illusion” will be held in high standards as it sets the pace for what is about to come. The vocals are a mix of Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams. Track two - “Closer” is an amazing array of arrangements. The balance and the vibe of Matthias Schenk will put you in a trance in the same style as Jon Bon Jovi would.
“Revolution” is fantastic and mixes stylish music with hard harmonies screaming… ‘Revolution’ as Johannes Löhr works his magic on guitar. In contrast, “But I like it” is a soulful tune with melodic guitar. “Darkness” gets harder with pounding drums, screeching guitar, and vocals sounding like a mix of Alice Cooper and Sebastian Bach.
Song after song there is no letting up. Just think; this is a CD that can be a classic because every song could be a hit. “Middle of Paradise” might be the highlight song on the CD. But since there are so many good songs to choose from, it will be hard for any fan to make up their mind. Oh the heck with it - ALL THE SONGS are highlight songs. I just don’t understand how a band like Shylock can write a stream of songs this good and go unnoticed by the world.
“Lose You” slows things down and puts you in an ecstasy state of mind. Don’t think this is a CD of just pop tunes Shylock gets hard and heavy on “The Need” - reminds me of a pumping Firehouse tune. “Tomorrow” starts off with keyboards a la Evanescence and breaks out into a symphony hard rock style while still holding that Shylock edge. Johannes Löhr plays shredding melodic guitar with no holds barred on this tune, and then it ends with the sounds of a music box. “Guilty” is another ass-kicking tune sounding like Bon Jovi and Firehouse.
This CD is recommended to all music fans, but will catch the ears of Bon Jovi, Firehouse, and Bonfire admirers. EXCELLENT!!
