Twin City hard rock band TOROK returns with a new CD titled “Addiction of Fools.” This is a first time listen of the band for me. TOROK shows faint similarities of old Seventies hard rock with a mix of Eighties metal. The opening track “Wolf Within” demonstrates the very strong vocals of singer Bryan Erickson. Nice pipes! The song itself lacks pizzazz… boring actually.

“Full moon” has a nice guitar sound but no presence of catchy hooks or strong melodies. Moving on through the CD, I am not getting the fuzzy warm feeling. The band shows moments of “OK Cool” something to grasp on to, then disappointment. Track 7 “Y” has a nice funk sound to it. It reminds me a little, just a little of old EXTREME. I liked it! Tracks 8 and 9 are nothing to write about-- fast forward. Cut 10, “Forsaken” has moments; again, there are nice parts to the song but no happy ending!

Sorry to say this, TOROK is in much need of a producer and a good engineer. The music at times sounds way too separated. Meaning… there is no band sound. It sounds as if all tracks were cut separately and never mixed down properly or levels even balanced out.

The CD overall lacks catchy hooks, and flat out good songs.The rhythm section is boring, topped off by a very weak recording effort. I am not sure if the band is named after the guitar player TOROK for his guitar playing, but if it is, TOROK needs to be up in the mix and show off what he’s got. There is not much here to like on this CD. I’m going to have to pass on this one!
