In 1989, there was a shock to the system when Vain’s debut CD was issued on Island Records. The San Francisco Bay Area natives were on the fast track to stardom with tracks list “Beat the Bullet”, “‘Who's Watching You’” and “Without You.” There was not a bad song on that entire release. Many became instant fans like myself. Davy had the pipes, the look and the stage presences to win over all new comers. After such a long disappearance from the music scene, could Davy bring back that magic to Vain?
Vain’s new release “On The Line” on Perris records is long awaited by the legions of glam fans. Jamie Scott and Danny West have not lost a beat with their Rembrandt style guitar sounds. Davy is a little older but still has that aura which could make him a superstar. The songs are good but not explosive like on “No Respect”. There is not a vocalist in the music business today that sounds like Davy, he captures you the way he uses his voice to make songs melodic and raunchy. You’ll hear that on the songs “Running On Empty”, “So Free Now”, “Drag Me” and “Lie For Love” but there is nothing on “On The Line” that can measure up to songs on “No Respect”.
