Checking out the debut release by VOODOO JOHNSON makes me believe that the UK based band has many influences in the rock world one being Nikki Sixx. I only say that because the opening track” Nowhere Inbetween” has a sense of SIXX A.M’s “Dead Man’s Ballet”.
I mean it’s not completely in the vein of SIXX AM but you can hear similarities. It also has a vibe of one of my favorite local Jersey talent LOWBUZ. The arrangements by VOODOO JOHNSON are top notch and as a newbie is true class.
“The Art of Losin’” is another good track that is more aggressive and the vocals by Kev Bayliss has an aura of Chris Robinson of the BLACK CROWES with a more traditional rock style. One of the things that stand out with VJ is their mascot logo that adorns a witchdoctor’s top hat with a snarly grin with drool of blood slobbers from the side of its mouth.
The last track “Dirty Angel” is in my opinion is the best track that rocks with perfection. It’s melodic at points and has star quality. It’s up lifting and drives home the killer riffs; you can hear these boys are going to be a force.
Hold up a bonus track, a tasteful acoustic specialty called “Broken” that will set the wheels of success rolling. The band shows versatility with the collaboration of amazing styles. Check these guys out!
