Female-fronted power pop music was a thing of the past with bands like the Go-Go’s and The Bangles making a big impact on music. There really has not been a female fronted band with that great sound of that until now. THE WEEKEND fronted by Andrea Wasse brings back that magic to the masses once again. Wasse sounds a lot like some of top female artists of the past - mainly Nena from Germany but also has the flare of Avril Lavigne and Suzanne Vega.
The Weekend songs are catchy with good melodies and great hooks that will put this band in a class of their own these days. “Into The Morning” is a fantastic opening track that will hook you onto the band. You will know by the first note that this is something special. Andrea’s voice has tons of charisma and her looks are not too shabby either.
“There Goes My Heart” is another track that will set the boy’s pants on fire. If MTV, VH1 and Fuse give their video some air-play, The Weekend will be off breaking ground around the world. I know the market is not the easiest to break into but video still has the biggest push to break a band. Many of the songs are not complicated and have traditional eighties chords and lyrics. They will have your feet tapping the floor.
I enjoyed listening to “Beatbox My Heartbeat” and my kids enjoyed jumping around the living room knocking over some glass dishes. Thanks The Weekend.
I know I will never get to hear this CD again once the kids get a hold of it!
