That was the singer of ANTHRAX in their garage days, and for two months and rehearsals at the Jamaican music building on the first floor below METALLICA, and went on to sing for another band signed to SPV.... Dirk Kennedy of HITTMAN.

Yes, in 1984 HITTMAN that explosive New York metal band had started their trek to success with an underground tape called “Metal Sport”. Opening for POISON, BLACK ‘N’ BLUE and for their very first show they opened for STRYPER. HITTMAN was once the talk of the town, a versatile bunch of guys with a charismatic lead vocalist named Dirk Kennedy that possessed the pipes similar to QUEENSRYCHE's Geoff Tate.

These guys were the next big thing coming out of New York since KISS. And I had the chance to catch up with these boys in the late 80’s and photograph their show and let me tell you, Red Bull had nothing on these guys, energy was at a high level. Still after all these years I would have to say that the (2) demos can still pump your membranes.

HITTMAN released their self-titled debut album in 1988; and in 1992 they came back with “Vivas Machina”. After that, it was all downhill difficulties with SPV and financial trouble hit the band and the band faded, but as I talked with Dirk he mentioned the band NEVER broke up. Dirk went on to audition for Yngwie and other and projects as did other members, yet they are still known today as HITTMAN and they plan on a new release in 2008 and possibly some live shows.

We caught up with Dirk for an extensive interview which you can read in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that. It was a great pleasure reminiscing with Dirk about the past and looking to the future for some new HITTMAN releases.

In the mean time check out some of the vintage shots of the show I took of HITTMAN at the Cat Club and Limelight… as we look into the past of HITTMAN.
