Looking at the cover of the latest CD by The Ark from Sweden you would think of Queen, Freddie Mercury, glam, techno, or eighties rock. Well, put them all together and you have The Ark. The band is not just image because they have a glow about them that will make a statement to be heard. The music is not your ordinary sound. What a mixture The Ark has; sounds of different cultures of music and genres from Sylvain Sylvain to early Bowie.
“One Of Us Is Gonna Die Young” is a great song that will attract many fans. For a softer sound that has a flare of techno and a more commercial appeal is “Let Me Down Gently.”
The Ark sounds could be the next huge import. These guys mix it all up with sounds of Hawaii five O, T.Rex, Bowie, and even Abba. “Others” is a tremendous song in the vein of T.Rex with a hint of guitar work of The Edge (U2).
Almost every track on “State of the Ark” will bring back a memory of a different band. “Girl You're Gonna Get 'Em” (Real Soon) sounds like Gary Numan and The Knack “My Sharona”. You have to check The Ark out and decide for yourself… are they for you or too retro?
