”Coming Up For Air”, the new DAN REED CD, describes exactly what I had to do after listening to it. It left me breathless. I only had to listen to it once to fall in love with every single track. But, I didn’t stop there. I became addicted and couldn’t get enough of it, so I listened to it time and time again.

The intoxicating sound of Dan Reed’s soulful voice and soothing music that envelops it, is inspirational and spiritual. This kind of labor can only come from an artist who has experienced life and is passionate about their work. So passionate that it lusters through the music and is channeled to the listener.

It has been since 1994 that Dan Reed (formerly with DAN REED NETWORK) has released a studio album and his hiatus was well worth the wait.

There are 13 tracks on the new CD and they are all Dan Reed at his best. Dan’s sound is extremely original and cannot be duplicated. The band line-up is a compilation of hand-picked musicians from across the globe, combined with Dan Reed’s pacifying voice.

In the tune “Brave New World”, Dan quotes “Ghandi”, and there is a message of peace and hope. “Dictator”, the last track has “Charlie Chaplin’s” voice mixed in giving his “Great Dictator” speech from 1940 portraying the same uplifting message of peace. This displays a unique creativity that sets DAN REED apart from the rest. “Losing My Fear” is a feel good song and anyone who has had a trepidation about faith can relate to it. This is just to name a few. All the tracks are equally amazing.

Often a “reviewer” will compare a CD or an artist to another. This gives the reader an idea of what to relate the sound to. In my opinion, this can’t be done with Dan Reed. The CD ”Coming Up For Air” is an innovative work of art and cannot be replicated. All top notch music and lyrics.

If I fill my quota of reviews for the year, I get to participate in RockEyez “Best of 2010” list. You can then look for this CD on it which has my vote. Great comeback Dan Reed!
