Gothenburg, Sweden the land of great music has a multitude of great bands many of which try to reach the shores of the United States and OUTSHINE has done just that.

Touring the states presently and promoting their latest CD “Bad Things Always End Bad” is not the easiest thing to do as an unknown band let alone being from abroad, but these guys look to make leaps and bounds pushing the limits of true rockers. OUTSHINE’s music has huge diversity slashing boundaries of alternative rock and Gothic. Vocally the lyrics are very invigorating and fresh straying away from traditional alternative repetitive style more in the vein of other European rockers like SHYLOCK.

Musically OUTSHINE are polished and vocally Erlend Jegstad has hints of the great SPREAD EAGLE vocalist Ray West. One of the highlight tracks “It’s Over” has trance like guitar work by Norberg & Anders Carlberg that brings special attention to the track. Jegstad’s vocals could reach out to many venues such as a Broadway musical; his voice is strong and capturing.

The overflowing sounds could make this a soundtrack album and many songs have burnt memories of past superstars. “Life Turns Out” is another track that sticks out with shining guitar, but Jegstad is sure to be the enigma.

For some reason listening to OUTSHINE brings two past greats to mind Bowie and Lou Reed, not because of the music but the way in which Jegstad pronounces the lyrics. Probably my favorite track would be “She Said” which has has sentimental acoustic guitar and has you focused to a dream state as the pulse gets louder then all hell breaks loose as OUTSHINE combusts in a musical assault, ending softly as the smoke settles.

Just wanted to wish OUTSHINE the best on the US tour and let’s give them some support. Pick up their new CD Bad “Things Always End Bad.”
