Ok who am I? Am I industrial? Am I metal? …Goth? or am I hardcore aggressive rock? Well hell! With all that I am, I am all that and more… I am THE CYAN VELVET PROJECT.

This band is coming out of Finland, with a male and female vocalist, which gives elevation a new meaning. It’s pretty funny when you see a band that’s knocking on the door looking for fame by trying to get their foot in the door with their male vocalist looking like a combination of Marilyn Manson and Wednesday 13, while his female counterpart is similar to a raven-haired Gothic version of PINK. Albeit the image and music works here, no wonder why the Finnish label Poko signed them.

Before their rise from the ashes, the band released three demos and two official EP’s “Retrogression” and “Heretic” and they haven’t looked back since signing on the dotted line in 2006. Front man Samuel Raggy is the backbone and it’s all held together by the spine cord Maria.

Their first full-length release “The Essence of Disposal” shreds with an overdose of screams and beauty, yet holding an edge on the simple minds alternative sound. “Passive Attack” turns the volume to eleven and reaches lobotomy levels of pleasure. Check out the video production by clicking HERE.

I love the CD cover, which shows a woman with a ball restraint in her mouth, next to the head of a pig with an apple in its mouth… who’s the real pig? I am sure the band will get some flack from the opening monolog to “Pagandom” which states the true GOD of the human race is MONEY, which I also agree that is the truth. But the CVP goes more into detail with organized religion and some of the evil behind it.

For the debut release of CVP, they bring up many hard issues, and they do a fine job focusing on race, religion and saving the children; I applaud CVP for having the balls to traverse the path strewn with taboo obstacles.

The music has energy, entertaining sound wise and visually in their video “Passive Attack” and sure you will be hearing more about CVP after being nominated by Finnish Metal Awards (FMA) 2007, as one of the best new bands.
