MOONCRY a rock metal band from Germany puts out their first attempt at stardom. Right out of the gate the first song” Legacy of Hope” has awkward arrangements that are confusing. The song plays like a bad soundtrack. The vocals are a bit rough to handle for me. The song has no direction and seems to go nowhere. Track 2 ”Angel of Darkness” starts out mysterious and has a nice bass line that flows well beneath it... I still don’t care for the vocalist. The song progress nicely, opens up a little, and then back down to the mystical sound. I like the concept of the song with sirens chanting throughout and a gothic angel ranting in the background. Track 3 “A Sun for You” tries to be theatrical but lacks in the vocal department. So far I am not sure what to make of MOONCRY. They tend to try to offer a concept of something but I am not sure what they are trying to achieve. I like the guitar player and the keys fill in ok but there is no direction for me. The drummer and bass player are fine but again vocals lack big time. The CD in my opinion lacks in the vocal melody and arrangements as well as the lead vocalist himself. “Curse Of The Seeking Ones” is a very cool tune until; yup the vocals come in and kill it. The last song on the “Carpet of Brown Leaves” is a somewhat of a ballad and left me with a sour taste in my mouth after that one.
Guys you have something good under all this, take sometime to soak it in and you might see what I am trying to say! Pass on this!
